Airtel Networks entered into an NCC-approved spectrum lease arrangement with NTEL covering 900MHz and 1800MHz bands across 19 states and the FCT to strengthen network capacity and service quality.

These spectrum bands are critical for delivering 2G, 3G, and 4G services, particularly due to their strong propagation characteristics and ability to enhance both coverage and capacity.

The lease is expected to significantly improve Airtel’s network quality by expanding its spectrum holdings in key frequency bands, enabling broader coverage and enhanced data performance. Similar spectrum leasing arrangements in the Nigerian telecoms sector have been instrumental in improving user experience and supporting growing demand for mobile data services. This transaction comes amid increasing demand for telecom infrastructure and spectrum resources in Nigeria, as operators continue to invest in network expansion and capacity upgrades to support rising data consumption and digital connectivity. Airtel, one of Nigeria’s leading telecom operators, has continued to deepen its spectrum portfolio through acquisitions and renewals, including in the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands.
