Bayer Acquires Perfuse Therapeutics in US$2.45 Billion deal to Strengthen Opthalmology Pipeline

Bayer has compeleted the acquisition of Perfuse Therapeutics, a US-based biopharmaceutical company focused on treatments ischemia-induced eye diseases, in a transaction valued at up to US$2.45billion, including an upfront payment of US$300 million.

The acquisition gives Bayer full global rights to PER-001, a first-in-class sustained-release endothelin receptor antagonist currently in Phase II clinical trials for the treatment of glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.

Delivered through a bio-erodible intravitreal implant, PER-001 is designed to address the underlying causes of disease by improving blood flow and preserving retinal cells, complementing exisiting treatment approaches. The transaction strengthens Bayer's opthalmology pipeline and reinforces its long-term strategy of expanding innovative therapies for vision-threatening diseases.
