A consortium comprising Women Investment Portfolio Holdings (WIPHold), the Public Investment Corporation (PIC), Phatisa Food Fund and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) has agreed to acquire Zaad Group in a transaction valued at US$80 Million (R1.42 billion).


The acquisition positions Zaad for its next phase of growth by expanding its sunflower, maize and vegetable seed genetics portfolio, accelerating its crop protection and agrochemical business, and supporting the planned acquisition of the reamining 60% stake in EA seeds.


Operating across South Africa, Africa and the Middle East, Zaad supplies seeds, agrochemicals and crop protection products to more than 100,000 farmers, playing a critical role in strengthening agricultural productivity and food security. The transaction remains subject to the fulfilment of conditions precedent and regulatory approvals.
