Differential Capital has completed the R1.27 billion (US$73 million) acquisition of the mining division of Murray & Roberts Limited, marking a major milestone in the company’s business rescue process and one of South Africa’s most significant corporate restructurings in recent years. The transaction follows Murray & Roberts’ voluntary business rescue in November 2024 and the unanimous approval of its rescue plan in April 2026.
Finalised on 25 June 2026, the deal transfers key mining services operations across Africa and the Americas, including subsidiaries in Canada, Australia, Portugal and Chile, to the Differential Capital-led consortium.
Beyond securing a strategic portfolio of specialist mining businesses, the acquisition enables the settlement of secured debt and funding obligations, preserves approximately 2,600 jobs, and safeguards critical mining expertise that supports South Africa’s mining industry and broader economy.
