Integrated Projects develops 1,500-bed YABATECH hostel under PPP

Integrated Projects Limited was engaged on the development of a 1,500-bed student hostel project at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), structured under a Design, Build, Finance, Maintain, Operate and Transfer (DBFMOT) public-private partnership framework.

The project forms part of a broader intervention by the Federal Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) aimed at addressing accommodation shortages across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions through private sector participation. At YABATECH, the development responds to longstanding pressure on student housing infrastructure, with existing hostel capacity reportedly accommodating only a fraction of demand amid rising student enrolment.

Structured as a DBFMOT concession, the transaction enables private sector financing, development, operation, and long-term maintenance of the student accommodation asset before eventual transfer back to the institution. The model reflects increasing reliance on PPP frameworks to bridge infrastructure gaps in Nigeria’s education sector while reducing direct funding pressures on public institutions.

The hostel project, officially flagged off by the Federal Government, is expected to include not only residential facilities but supporting amenities aimed at improving student welfare and campus living conditions. The initiative also aligns with a wider government-backed push to expand hostel infrastructure across tertiary institutions nationwide through alternative financing mechanisms.
