Meta Platforms has announced the development of its first Canadian data centre, a multi-phase investment exceeding US$9.26 billion (C$13 billion) in Sturgeon County, Alberta, making it the company's largest data centre outside the United States. The facility will initially deliver approximately 1 GW of capacity, expanding to 1.8 GW upon full completion, significantly strengthening North America's digital infrastructure.

The project is linked to the proposed Greenlight Electricity Centre, a separate energy development expected to attract more than C$4 billion in investment to support the facility's substantial power requirements. Beyond reinforcing Meta's global AI and cloud infrastructure, the development is expected to drive long-term economic growth, create employment opportunities. and position Alberta as a strategic hub for hyperscale data centre investment.
