MTN South Africa has launched Pi, a standalone Digital Network Operator (DNO) that delivers mobile and home 5G services through a fully digital, app-based platform powered by MTN's national network.

Unlike traditional mobile operators, Pi offers customers a contract-free experience with no credit checks, flexible plans, eSIM support and self-service account management. The launch marks MTN's entry into South Africa's fast-growing digital-first telecommunications market and reflects the broader shift towards cloud-native, technology-driven service delivery.

As the first MTN-endorsed DNO and one of the first offerings of its kind in Africa, Pi combines the scale of an established network with the agility of a digital-first brand. The initiative is expected to strengthen competition, expand consumer choice and accelerate digital connectivity across the country's telecommunications sector.
