Sanlam Alternative Investments has acquired a 10% equity stake in Africa GreenCo through a US$10 million investment, becoming the renewable energy trader's first private institutional shareholder. The investment supports Africa GreenCo's expansion across the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), where it provides bankable long-term power offtake agreements to renwable independent power producers while supplying lower-carbon electricity to utilities, mines, and commercial and industrial customers.
Operating across Zambia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, with licensing underway in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa GreenCo's integrated trading model is designed to strengthen regional electricty markets, improve energy security, and unlock financing for new renewable energy projects. The transaction marks an important step in mobilising institutional capital to support Africa's energy transition and the continued growth of regional power markets.
