South32 has entered into an agreement to sell its sluminium portfolio across Australia, Brazil and South Africa to Alcoa Corporation in a transaction with an implied enterprise value of up to US$5.6 billion.
The disposal marks a significant milestone in South32's portfolio optimisation strategy, enabling the mining and metals company to sharpen its focus on high-margin upstream base metals while unlocking value from its aluminium business.
The transaction aligns with South32's long-term strategy of concentrating capital on its core operations and future growth opportunities and expands Alcoa's global aluminium value chain and its presence in the global aluminium industry.
