Vumatel Secures ICASA Approval for Herotel Licence Transfer

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has approved the transfer of Herotel's telecommunications licenses to Vumatel, marking a key regulatory milestone in Vumatel's acquisition of the country's third-largest fibre network operator.

The approval follows the Competition Tribunal's clerance of the transaction and paves the way for the implementation of the merger. By combining Vumatel's national scale and metropolitan fibre expertise with Herotel's strong presence in rural and underserved communtities, the transaction is expected to accelerate broadband rollout, expand affordable fibre access and help bridge South Africa's digital divide.
